Napping Princess (Hirune Hime: Shiranai Watashi no Monogatari) ~ #Review #Giveaway

I have been an anime junkie as long as I could remember.  If you liked Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Eden of the East then you will love Kenji Kamiyama's Napping Princess.  I am always looking for a good anime to watch and the Napping Princess was entertaining and I would recommended for the whole family to watch.

It was confusing at first when the movie flips between reality and dreamland.  I had to watch the movie twice to grasps what I missed the first time.  I didn't mind watching again since I enjoyed the movie.

It was the last day of Kokone Morikawa before her summer vacation.  She was reunited with her childhood friend Morio who was home for the summer.  Kokone's dad was a mechanic and was take in by the police.  He sends her a text not to trust a bearded man.  The bearded man shows up and tries to take Kokone but luckily Morio helps Kokone escape and she later discovers that her dreams and reality are interconnected.  Every time Kokone dreams, there are hidden clues to explain what is going on in reality.

Whenever Kokone falls asleep, she dreams of a place called Heartland.   There is a king in Heartland who loves his daughter.  His daughter has magical powers.  The King is worry about his kingdom from the attacks from the evil Colossus.  It attacks the kingdom because it is attractive to the magic from the princess.  Then the fun part is to compare the people and events happening in reality to everything happening in Heartland.

I have always enjoy watching anime with the original Japanese voice actors with subtitles but you don't have to.   It comes with English and French Dub so you don't need the subtitles.

From visionary director Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Eden of the East) comes a sci-fi fantasy that effortlessly weaves together the rapidly evolving technology of today’s world with the fantastic imagination of the next generation, which was nominated for Best Animated Feature – Independent, at this year’s Annie Awards.

The year is 2020, three days before the opening of the Tokyo Olympics. While she should be studying for her exams, Kokone Morikawa often dozes off, entering a dream-world called Heartland full of fantastic motorized contraptions. But when her father, a talented but mysterious mechanic, is kidnapped for stealing technology from a powerful corporation, it’s up to Kokone and her childhood friend Morio to save him. Together they realize that Kokone’s dream-world holds the answers to the mystery behind the stolen tech, uncovering a trail of clues to her father’s disappearance and ultimately a surprising revelation about Kokone’s family.

With an ambitious mix of multilayered action, whimsical characters and inventive machines, Napping Princess is a genre- and universe-blending film that shows that following your dreams is sometimes the best way to discover your past.
