Pinty's Authentic Pub and Grill ~ Review

I had the pleasure to try a few selection of Pinty's Authentic Pub and Grill food and they were a huge hit at home.  It felt like myself and my family were eating at a bar with great food and company.  All that was missing were frothy pints for the adults and OJ for the kids.

We tried:
Pinty's Bold BBQ - Boneless Chicken Breast (comes with Bold BBQ and Creamy Dill sauce) -810g
Pinty's Honey & Roasted Garlic - Premium Chicken Wings (comes with honey & roasted garlic and hot sauce) -890g
Pinty's Plum Prunes - hand cut, jumbo tenders (comes with honey mustard and plum sauce) -810g

I was advised the best selection is available at Walmart for $13.00.

It was a such as success that my husband wanted to write the review for the tenders and boneless chicken breast.
This is what he has to say:

The chicken nuggets were essentially bite-sized versions of the full size chicken breast- and that definitely isn't a bad thing. In both cases, the meat was high quality white chicken meat, and the light breaded coating wasn't too greasy or heavy. Based on the nutritional information on the box, both the nuggets and the tenders are high quality chicken breast meat, and while the breading isn't exactly nutritious, these morsels definitely lean heavily on the side of "good for you". The nuggets make a great guilt-free snack for kids and husbands alike, while the tenders would be a hearty, healthy part of any vegetable plate, or even cut up over a mixed green salad.

The creamy dill sauce instantly takes you to a crowded, lively pub, as you envision yourself and close friends scarfing down tasty bar fare like deep-fried pickles or onion rings (thankfully, the chicken items you are dipping into the dill sauce are far more nutritious). It is smooth, not too heavy, and has just enough dill "bite", ultimately doing a great job of accessorizing the chicken flavour.

The bold barbeque sauce was definitely that, with strong smokey undertones and a sharp, fresh off the BBQ taste. Thankfully, the sauce wasn't TOO strong, allowing the full flavour of the chicken tenders and nuggets to still be experienced and enjoyed. I would have liked to have seen a bit more "stink" to the bold bbq sauce - some heat or fire to give it zing. However, it is a great flavour for the backyard/picnic BBQ connoisseur in all of us.

The plum sauce and honey mustard sauce both lived up to their names admirably, and tasted great. That is about all I can say, since there was nothing, either good or bad, that really stood out with these sauces. That being said, if you prefer the staple sauce experience of tangy honey mustard, or silky smooth and sweet plum, you can't go wrong with either of these.

I couldn't share the chicken wings.  They are one of my favourite things to eat.  They were so good that I ended up burning my mouth.  The honey garlic was made to my perfection.  The wings are a great size, unlike some places that serve tiny ones that are almost non existence.  It was not greasy and the skin was perfect.  The meat just fell off the bone and I think it was made just for me.  Pinty's know how I like my wings.

Pinty's was a success in my household.  I was stunned how much we all enjoyed them.  I could see myself purchasing them often throughout the year.

Planning to pick up some dinner or going to be entertaining a group of friends, don't forget to purchase a few boxes of Pinty's.  I will promises you there will be none left over.  The plates might also be licked clean.
Pinty's are available at your local Metro, Sobey's, Walmart, and Save on Foods to name a few.  Check here for the closest location to you.

Happy 100th Anniversary, Laura Secord ~ Review

Can you believe 2013 marks the 100th anniversary of Laura Secord, Canada's largest chocolatier store.  It was founded in 1913 by Frank P O'Connor, a 28-year-old businessman, in Toronto on Yonge Street.  He turned his apartment into a candy store and named it Laura Secord in honour of the Canadian heroine.  The success of the company expanded across Ontario and Quebec.   Laura Secord has now over 113 shops across Canada plus other distribution points.  A special cameo logo will be created for its 100th anniversary.

Recently, Laura Secord has launched it own line of cooking chocolates.  "This new peanut-free line inlcudes three new products: Pure Milk Chocolate Drops, Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, and Mini Chocolate Chips - 70% Cocoa" for a retail price of $3.49 to $14.99."

Laura Secord's has always brought back good childhood memories, eating their chocolates or ice-cream.  I could never walk by the store.  I have to at least pop in and browse what they have in-store.  Laura Secord was kind enough to send me a sample of their delicious chocolates and immediately most of the chocolates disappeared in record time.  My absolute favourite is their orange cream chocolate, my daughter's favourite is their chocolate suckers, and my husband's is their mint chocolate.  He thinks that Laura Secord "makes, bar none, the finest mint chocolates in the world.  Whether it is the attractive and minty frosted mint, or the unassumingly smooth and delicious french mint, you can't go wrong."  I was also sent a pack of their new cooking chocolates.  I can't decide what I will use it for...cookies? muffins? brownies?  Regardless, I know my family will enjoy it.

To mark this special occasion  Laura Secord is giving away $100,000 in prizes by entering into their contest from now to March 31st, 2013.  There are "many instant prizes, for a total of $100,000 will be given out to chocolate lovers."  A pin will be required to enter into the draw.  It is obtained by spending a minimum of $10 at any Laura Secord shops.  For more information visit www.laurasecord.ca/en/contest/index or on their Facebook at www.facebook.com/laurasecord.ca

Stonz Rain Boots ~ Review & Giveaway

Who is Stonz Wear?
It all started when a mother wasn't satisfied with the footwear selection in the market for Canadian weather out west to keep her children's feet warm.  This company filled in that necessity.  Afterwards, the company grew into a successful organization known for their children's outdoor gears.

Yes!  I know it does not seem like it but spring will be arriving soon and we all need to prepare our kids for it.  Just in time for this Spring, Stonz Wear recently launched 100% Natural Rubber Boots for $35.99.  The rubber boots are available in four different colours - yellow, blue, pink, and grey.  They start in toddler size 5 to youth size 4.

  • 100% natural rubber
  • durable and tear resistance
  • fexible and comfortable
  • quick dry 100% cotton liner
  • PVC- free
  • Phthalate-free
  • Lead-free
  • Formaldehyde-free
Have you heard a 20 months old little girl squeal in delight?  It just melts your heart.  She squeals when she saw she has new Stonz Wear rain boots and wanted them to put on her right away.  For days, at home, she would prance around in the house with her shiny new boots.  She loves them so much she would put them on herself without any assistance.  If she could, she might want to sleep with them.  I can foresee her future - she most likely will have a shoe addiction!  There are two things I love about these boots. First, they are light weigh so she is not struggling to walk or drag her feet.  Second, they are comfortable because if they were not, she would keep on taking them off.  I know she can't wait for some rain and start splashing around in them.

I have never seen these before, they also have a rain boot liner inserts for an additional C$18.99 for toddler size 8 to youth size 4.  This will provide extra warmth and comfort for your little ones.  It is just too bad they don't make them in my size.  I would really be interested in purchasing one myself.

Stonz Wear are sold across Canada and US.  Use their locator to find the store closest to you.

Stonz Wear would like to offer one of my readers C$25 promo code to their online store http://www.stonzwear.com/.  Open to Canadians only. Good Luck!

Bath & Body Works: Candles & Wallflowers ~ Review

I have been going to Bath & Body Works for years but usually only for lotions, lip balms, body butters, and liquid soaps.  I know my girlfriends purchase their Candles and Wallflowers and now I know why.

BBW's goal is to bring the tropics to you.  They want to turn your home into a tropical oasis, as if you are sitting by the beach, relaxing, drinking a refreshing cocktail, and soaking up some sun without leaving your home.  This collection comes in either candles or fragrance bulbs.  Their candles comes in 3 sizes - mini (1.3 oz), small (4oz), and 3 wick (14.5 oz).  The Wallflower plugs are needed for the fragrance bulbs and they could last up to 8 weeks.  I was advised that their new fragrance bulb has been improved - loaded with more fragrance that would last longer than before.

Fragrances:
  • Palm Beach Cooler
  • Poolside (3 Wick Only)
  • Tiki Beach
  • Caribbean Escape
  • Coconut Leaves
  • Pink Sangria
  • Peah Bellini
  • Bahama Fizz (3 Wick Only)
  • Island Margarita
  • Oceanside (3 Wick Only)
  • Beach Cabana
Wallflower fragrance plugs - designed to complement the collection and add decor to any room
  • Tipped Flowers (white, turquoise, pink)
  • Shell Night Light
  • Patina Turtle
I had the opportunity to try a few of their New Tropical Collection.  I received their Tiki Beach in a candle, a White Tipped Wallflowers Fragrance plug with two fragrance bulb - Tiki Beach and Beach Cabana.

The scent I received smells fantastic.  I really like the fragrance bulb.  I had it plugged in my kitchen over night and in the morning the whole room smelled like it was filled with flowers.  The Tiki Beach has scents of toasted coconut, vanilla musk, and orchids.  The Beach Cabana has a scent of rich jasmine and orange blossom.  I never had the Wallflower before and I think they are much better than before.

Thermal-Aid ~ #Review & #Giveaway

Pacific Shore Holdings Inc. created the Thermal-Aid.  It's a 100% natural, heating and cooling pack which helps to reduce: swelling,  fever, bee stings, and sun burns, and all sorts of pains.  It has been university tested & doctor recommended.  It is advised not to be used if anyone is allergic to corn.

These "heating and cooling packs by Thermal-Aid were developed by their Bio-Engineers and Doctors that worked closed with milling experts using a unique patented process, which removes the embryo/germ tip cap and outer coat from each kernel of corn.  This leaves the purest and cleanest portion of the corn products.  This process hardens the specialized de-germinated corn, allowing it to hold temperatures evenly for long periods of time.  It also eliminated mold, fungi and foul odors often associated with natural heating/cooling products."

I received the Thermal-Aid small sectional and my daughters received Jojo the Monkey. When my daughter saw the monkey she was begging me to open it.   Thermal-Aid for kids comes in all sorts of animals your kids will like, from bears to elephants.  Not only do they provide relief but also comfort.  This would be less scary then a regular ice pack when she has a bump or bruise.

The Thermal-Aid small sectional is a perfect size for the arms, ankles, foot, feet, and even on my back.  Yes, I have back pains.  I have been having back aches since I was 19...19!  I sound like I am 70.  You can't imagine how much back pain I have had during both of my pregnancies.  I put it in the micro-wave for 40 seconds and when I touched it I didn't find it was hot enough.  Then I put it in for another 40 seconds and still I didn't think it was hot enough but it was warm to the touch so I thought it should be enough to try it out.  Once I put it on my back it was alot warmer than I thought.  I guess the skin on my hands are alot tougher than my back.  It felt great.  I could see myself using this often.  They have a smaller size available that anyone could keep it their freezer so it will be available when they need it.

Both the Thermal-Aid small sectional and the zoo animal are available at selected stores like Costco, CVS/pharmacy, Bartell Drugs and Amazon.com.

Pacific Shore Holdings Inc. would like to offer 2 (two) of my readers -  one Thermal-Aid each.  One will receive the Jojo the Monkey and the other the Small Sectional.  Open to Canada and US. Good Luck!

This giveaway will run from February 14th to March 7th, 2013 (midnight EST).  *Note: you have to complete the "task" of your choosing in order to win the prize*  You have 72 hours to respond or I will have choose another winner.

Nicole by OPI: Selena Gomez ~ #Review

One of my personal (and my daughter's) favourite Selena Gomez songs is "Love You Like a Love Song".  It is nice and very catchy.  For a girl who is only twenty - she "is not only a chart-topping singer and actress, she's also a clothing designer and an active philanthropist".   Unbelievable for a person who is so young.

Nicole by OPI features 14 new nail lacquer shades inspired by Selena Gomez's "sweet yet spunky personality, from soft pink and peach hues to bright glitter and confetti lacquers."  It has a diverse range of colours which "offers a perfect match for every occasion."

Swatches:

Love Song & Hit the Lights
I really like "Love Song", then again I might be bias because in general I love all shades in purple.  These shades remind me of Easter, which is just around the corner.  I might be wearing these on my nails when I am "helping" my daughters hunting for their chocolate eggs.  My daughter pick these two as her favourite shades from the all the nail polishes I have.

Which one is your favourite from this collection?

Nicole by OPI: Selena Gomez collection "contains no DBP, Toluene, Formaldehyde and its formulas are long-lasting, fast-drying, and salon-quality."  Available in stores, Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart, Jean Coutu, Loblaw, London Drugs, January 2013 for suggested retail price of $10.99.

Graco: one second ear thermometer ~ #Review & #Giveaway

I hate flu season.  I worry when my girls gets sick.  When they are really young it is hard to tell if they are in pain or uncomfortable.  I worry and fuss until their temperature drops to normal.  Sometimes I would take their temperature every 30 mins to see if there are any changes.  I grew up with the ones that stick in your mouth under your tongue but I have never been able to read them.

I only purchase the ones that go under the arm and my girls don't like it.  When I try to take their reading it takes about 1-2 mins and they are squirming and crying because they don't like it.  Sometimes I would have to take the reading a few times to make sure it was accurate.  After a period of time it runs out of batteries and I have to throw it out and have to repurchase another one.

Graco has released their own 1-second ear thermometer that I think every mom should have.

Graco: one second ear thermometer

Its features:
  • takes reading in one second
  • easy-to-read lighting jumbo LCD display
  • No probe cover needed - cleans with alcohol
  • 512 scanning sequences per second identify highest temperature
  • self test when turn on
  • stores/recalls last ten readings
  • measures temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius
  • Automatic shutoff
This thermometer was so easy to use, I wish I had this years ago.  It would had made my life less stressful when my girls were sick.  There is nothing I don't like about it.  It is the best thermometer I ever used.  I really like the smiling or frowning face that will appears after each reading.

Over the years, I had to purchase a few new thermometers because they ran out of batteries.  It is such a waste to throw them out, just because they needed its batteries to be replaced.  I am so glad this Graco's thermometer has a latch so I could re-place the batteries and it will warn me when the battery is low.

I like how the LCD lights up because most of my readings are done when the room is dark.  I don't like to turn on the light so am usually I am rushing out of the room so I could  read it.  I really like how it stores the last ten readings.  Moms like to keep track of each reading to see if it has improved or not.  This just make it so easy and convenient.

The Graco's one second ear thermometer is available at Walmart, Jean Coutu, and other retailers.  It retails for $29.99 but price may vary from store to store.

Graco Baby Canada has started a new Facebook page and I hope you will all go and share some love and support by "liking" them on their new page.

Graco Canada would like to offer one of my readers there very own 1- second ear thermometer.  Open to Canadians only. Good Luck!

This giveaway will run from February 11th to March 1st, 2013 (midnight EST).  *Note: you have to complete the "task" of your choosing in order to win the prize*  You have 72 hours to respond or I will have choose another winner.

Chinese New Year ~ Holiday

In case you are wondering tomorrow - February 10th, 2013 is Chinese New Year

"The Snake is the sixth sign of the Chinese Zodiac out of the twelve.  They say a Snake in the house is a good omen because it means that your family will not starve.  2013 is the year of the Water Snake whom are lucky with finances and seem to have money flowing their way."

Wishing my readers, followers, and fans a Happy Chinese New Year.

Nicole by OPI: New for 2013 ~ Review

Nicole by OPI introduces four new nail lacquer shades for 2013.  Two vibrant shades and two deep hues.  These shades are "suited for every wearer and occasion while delivering distinct colour with a flawless finish."

(left to right) Plum To Your Senses! - Please Red-cycle - Totally in The Dark - Still into Pink
Plum to Your Senses - dramatic statement, sophisticated
Please Red-cycle - classic
Totally in The Dark - playful shimmer
Still into Pink - bold pigment

Swatches:
Please Red-Cycle, Totally in the Dark

Still Into Pink, Plum Your Senses
I love these new shades.  They were so much fun to wear.  "Please Red-Cycle" reminds me of candy apples or sexy glossy red pumps.  I never owned black nail polish before but this one is very chic.  I like how it shimmers and makes it more interesting than just plain old black.  "Plum Your Senses" is so dark it is almost black.  I could see this matched up with elegant evening wear.  The best and most interesting of the four is the "Still Into Pink".  I like how it stands out and dries matte instead of glossy as the usual nail polish.  If I want to gloss it up - I could add in a clear top coat.

Do you like them?  Which is your favourite?

Nicole by OPI (2013) "contains no DBP, Toluene, Formaldehyde and its formulas are long-lasting, fast-drying, and salon-quality."  Available in stores, Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart, Jean Coutu, Loblaw, London Drugs, for a limited of time on January 2013 for suggested retail price of $10.99.

Mobi: Secure Start Monitor ~ #Review & #Giveaway

I wish I had this monitor over 6 years ago.  The old monitor I had was terrible and it has one monitor for the baby room and two receiving monitors that I am able to put any where in the house.  I put one in the basement and the other in the living room.  Unfortunately like other monitors it emphasizes the background noise that made it very annoying, even when I turn down the volume.  Sometimes it was hard to tell the difference between the background noise and the actually baby.

Who is Mobi Technologies?
They are a multi award winning juvenile and family safety and consumer electronics "niche product" company.

I had the opportunity to try out MobiCam Secure Start Digital Audio/Video Monitor - retails for $119.99 available at getmobi.com

Features:
  • 2.0 High-Res LCD Display
  • 2.4 GHz digital wireless, for secure and private signal
  • Up to 400 ft range
  • Powerful Night Vision up to 20 ft (sharp black & white images)
  • Two way communication
  • VOX (Voice Control Exchange) mode option.  Automatically turns one when it hears sounds and turns off when it does it.
  • AC power adaptor for monitor and camera
  • rechargeable batteries (monitor only)
  • includes belt clip & camera stand
The batteries needs to charged for 11 hours for the first time but afterwards 8 hours.  Once the batteries are charged, it will last for 6 hours but it is recommended have it plugged in if you are planning to use it for long periods of time like when the child is sleeping overnight.  There is a 90 days warranty period, if there is a defect they will either replace it or repair it.

My Review:
This is the coolest baby monitor I ever had.  I had so much fun testing it out.  My daughter founded it so strange to hear me and I was not even in the room.  I could clearly see my daughter in the monitor even when I was in the basement.  There is a faint background noise but not as bad as the one I had - barely noticeable.  It took me a few minutes to figure out how to put the batteries in the "receiver" monitor until I realized there is a screw I need to loosen.  It was so easy to install the stand to the "transmitter" camera.   Both the monitor and camera are so light they can be taken with you, anywhere you need it like going on an over night trip to grandma's place or a good old fashion vacation.  I can still use this even after my daughter does not need it.  I could monitor the kids while I am not in the room or great for security when placed in front of the door.  Every mom should have this - its a necessity to have the best monitor in the house.

Mobi Technologies would like to offer one of my readers there very own MobiCam Secure Start.  Open to Canadians and US only. Good Luck!

Nicole by OPI: Modern Family ~ Review

Modern Family is known to be one of the funniest comedy shows around, which became the "sixteenth-highest revenue-generating show for 2010, earning $1.6 million an episode." Wikipedia

Nicole by OPI: Modern Family is one of their newest collections for 2013.  These 14 new nail lacquers are inspired by Modern Family and "captures the show's colourful personalities" and spirit.  This collection consist of a range of shades from pastel to bright colours.  Each "shades represents each of these uniquely fabulous women - and everyone else in the blended family."

Swatches:
My Jay or The Highway!

Base coat - I Do De-Claire!
Top coat - She's Lily Something

I really like combining "I Do De-Claire!" and "She's Lily Something".  It is a gorgeous pink that makes me feel all girly and pretty.  The glittery stars add a nice touch to finish off my nails.  I can't wait to wear this during the coming Spring and Summer months.  I could wear these colours all the time.

Nicole by OPI: Modern Family collection "contains no DBP, Toluene, Formaldehyde and its formulas are long-lasting, fast-drying, and salon-quality."  Available in stores, Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart, Jean Coutu, Loblaw, London Drugs, for a limited of time on January 2013 for suggested retail price of $10.99.

Yes, I was hoping to get this box since I don't have many of their products.  I was not sure what was the likelihood of me getting this box.  I do hope most people received what they have chosen.  Also this box's theme is Chinese New Year which I will be celebrating with my family this weekend.  It feels like it has been awhile since they launch a good box out.  I wonder what they might have in store for the next few months.

Prairie Girl Bakery ~ #Review

Who does not like cupcakes?  Sometimes instead of a birthday cakes we pick up a few cupcakes from the grocery store.  They were boring cupcakes.  It was the only place I knew where to purchase cupcakes.  Then came the infamous Prairie Girl Bakery.

Who are the Prairie Girl?
If you live around the Greater Toronto Area, you have to know who the Prairie Girl are.   Just in-case you don't know, they specialize in cupcakes.  Very good and tasty cupcakes.

They have two cupcake stores around the downtown core of Toronto, soon opening in Yorkville in the Spring 2013.  However, if you are not close to their store locations they will deliver in the City of Toronto.

The original Prairie Girl was Jean Blacklock, who has a passion for baking.  She dreamt big so she joined forces with Pastry Chef Andrea Ascione and started the Prairie Girl.  They started off with two bakers, and have grown to twenty-five and counting.

Want to know how good their cupcakes are?  Let's just say, I work close by to one of their locations and they are very busy, especially Friday afternoons, and they have huge line ups to get their cupcakes.  No joke, it happens every Friday afternoon they put up line-up boarder lanes.  When you see people are lining up at their door, you know it is good.

They have a strict quality control policy to deliver the best quality cupcakes to each customer they serve.  Each cupcakes is baked daily and any leftovers are donated to Toronto's Second Harvest at the end of each day.  I believe each restaurant owner should adopt the same policy to fight the hunger that is happening in our own city.

The Menu:
They have the Golden Buttermilk cupcakes with different icing like vanilla, chocolate, lemon, or strawberry.
They also have the Dark Coco cupcakes with different icing like vanilla, chocolate, perppermint, or peanut butter.
Then they have the Specialty cupcakes that consist of red velvet, banana, and carrot cake with delicious icings.
Finally, they have Treats of the Week which is only available during the week.  Here today, gone tomorrow, might come back at another time.

Prairie Girl offered me a $25 giftcard to try out their cupcakes.  I have chosen 15 mini cupcakes so I could sample a good selection with my family.  I can't believe how amazing they taste.  You can tell they are not store bought.  You can taste the quality in these cupcakes.  The best part is the icing and it is almost the same size as the cupcake.  They don't skimp on the deliciousness.

It is hard to let you know which cupcake I liked the most.  I know that I have heard from people that their red velvet cupcakes are the best or the strawberry icing on chocolate.  If I were to order again, I would chose the coconut icing on buttermilk cupcake or the chocolate icing on red velvet cupcakes.

My husband - "an extra note of love goes to their carrot cake muffin with cream cheese icing.  Not only was the muffin itself moist and delicious, but the cream cheese icing achieved new levels of amazing."

If you are around the downtown core, don't forget to drop by into their store and order to your hearts content.  There are 15 choices you can choose from and you will leave very satisfied.

As the Prairie Girl Bakery will say..."Live Life One Cupcake at a Time".
